Nokia pays tribute to Cebu’s gems with the Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte
The number 8 has many meanings. In astrology, it means strength and perfection. In Asian culture, it stands for luck, prosperity, and wealth. For Nokia, it represents its premium mobile devices that exude elegance and luxury for those who enjoy the finer things in life.
Nokia recently upped the ante in style as it launched its new gem, the Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte. Cebu’s movers and shakers flocked to Shangri-La Mactan’s Marquee to be part of the tribute to Nokia’s Movement of 8. In the spotlight were eight iconic Cebuanos bound by their passion and desire: to live a life of significance and style. Each personality also represented a distinct feature of the Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte.
Nokia’s Movement of 8
Managing not just one but four companies is a challenge and a tough balancing act. But with the right mix of confidence and strength in character it can be done. Just ask businessman Glenn Soco who is President of MIMS, Cebu’s biggest manpower services company, President of Powerline Human Resources Management, Inc, Executive Vice President of G.A. Satellite Ventures, Inc. and Founder and President of the Coffee Dream Coffee Shop Chain. The strength in character is also present in the leather, metal and glass materials used for the Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte
As a philanthropist, Mariquita Salimbangon-Yeung harnesses material wealth and tempers it with social responsibility. She is the founder of the Mariquita Salimbangon Yeung Charitable Foundation, a Sponsor for Operation Smile and a member of Operation Smile’s International Board of Governors. She exudes classic elegance and style just like the Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte. It’s smooth, clean, lines and exquisite design is what makes this true mobile gem stand out.
Ask anyone who’s truly made it in the real sense of the word how they made it and chances are they will tell you its all about knowing what you want and having the passion to go for it. Our example? John Paul Chiongbian, CEO of Club Vudu, Formo, Paseo, and Holy Kettle Corn. Just like JP, the Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte sound heats up the flames of passion through an exclusive soundtrack of graphic grooves from master producers Kruder & Dorfmeister with visuals by Fritz Fitzke.
Whoever said that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder forgot what inner beauty is all about and something that only the heart will see. Charity work is part of many beauty titlists, but unlike most beauty queens who lose their crown after a year, 1996 Bb. Pilipinas International Yedda Kittilsvedt-Romualdez still keeps her crown on her head with different socio-civic work through her husband’s (Rep. Martin Romualdez of Leyte) projects. The Nokia Sapphire Arte takes a page from her, showcasing its own brand of inner beauty. In addition to the 3G capabilities and 3.2 megapixel auto focus camera, the Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte boasts a stunning OLED display and 1 GB built-in memory.
As President and Chief Designer of Kenneth Cobonpue Furniture, Kenneth Cobonpue is a craftsman with an exceptional ability to create masterpieces with fine attention to details. Testament to this is the many local and international awards that he’s been given. His creations make use of only top of the line materials, including exquisite leather and precious stones. The Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte contains both. The select key for example is made from a single sapphire, which is one of the world’s most valued gemstones with a strong heritage and coveted appeal. Panels are crafted from premium leather sourced in Eastern India. By avoiding mechanical embossing Nokia ensures that each product is totally unique and that the hide’s natural grain is preserved. Fine layers of coating are applied to protect against everyday use and add an extra dash of finesse. Color-wise, luxurious brown and coffee tones remind us of understated elegance.
Arte translates as art, which is oftentimes also rare. Art is oftentimes a celebration of uniqueness and individuality. Just ask Marguerite Lhuillier who is the Exclusive Designer and President of Infini Handicrafts Collection and awarded as one of the best dressed women of the Philippines by the Philippine Cancer Society. In creating the Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte, Nokia celebrates the art of individuality by way of natural light and the intricate ways in which it reflects, flickers and glows. This can be seen in the unique tap-for-time feature. Just two gentle taps are all it takes to illuminate the clock screen, while living wallpapers move organically throughout the day to give unique on-screen decoration.
Avatar Accessories Inc. Managing Director & Chief Creative Officer, Butch Carungay is a style authority. He has at least a dozen local and international awards under his name for the jewelry and accessories that he’s designed. He knows what’s in and what’s out — just like Nokia, which has designed an exclusive range of accessories for the Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte. These include a touch-sensitive volume control earpiece, a stylish desk stand and a beautiful leather carrying case complete with linen interior.
You know you’re influential, when people’s voices and actions change at your mere facial expression, presence or even, just the wave of your hand. Governor Gwen Garcia is not just the Governor of Cebu. She wears many other hats and her sphere of influence is far and wide. It is a busy life for Governor Garcia but she won’t have it any other way. You too can make things quiet with a wave of your hand — a unique silencing mechanism is activated when the Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte is turned over, screen-side down.
The Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte embodies the different passions and style of Nokia’s Movement of 8. It combines expert craftsmanship, precious materials and functional design. It is for those who appreciate the finer things in life.
